Hate: Cain's way

10/02/09  ||  Daemonomania

Apparently, Cain’s way is to blast, stomp, and generally imitate Deicide but without the hooks. Hate to say it, but I think I prefer Michael Caine’s way, which is to be a tough old Limey bastard. Supposedly, Caine says that he never even watched Jaws 4 (in which he starred), but he did see the house the paycheck bought him and it is beautiful. Awesome.

Hate theoretically grew an individuality bone at some later point in their career, and morphed into a much more interesting beast. But on this album they’re content to try and break the sound barrier by being more fast as fuck death metal than thou. Got news for you, dudes, someone else will always be faster. And chances are, that someone will be from Brazil.

Still, the hard work does ooze from the speakers. They’re from Poland, they’re pissed, and they’re not gonna take it (from God) anymore. Witness the cover – OMG, they totally did not do that!!! I am, like, so OFFENDED. Or not. Sacrilegious imagery has become so cliché in death metal, you’d have to be stumbling across the genre for the first time to get hot and bothered by an upended crucifix with the lord (but not the Lord) suffering on it.

Which brings me to something I was thinking about today. Why wish for the decimation of Christendom, anyway? It keeps a lot of people subdued and ready for all sorts of shit that life throws at them. Plus, if you get into a position of power religion is a wonderful tool to manipulate the mass…heh, I mean, your constituents. Last but not least, what the hell would death metal bands write about if there was no more “Shame of the creator”? Their fucking feelings? No one wants to hear about them, you long-haired alcoholic asshole.

Something tells me these arguments wouldn’t get much traction with The First Sinner or Destroyer or Nekroviolator or whatever they want to call themselves. Regardless, “Cain’s way” is competent, but the muffled production stifles a lot of the fury. There’s some asskicking going on, some good solos, some abuse of various instruments. But you’ve heard all that before. Only for the faithful, or I guess the extremely unfaithful.

5 Michael Caine sneers out of 10.
